- I. Overview
- ------------
- The Intel(R) Active Monitor is a system monitoring tool that
- alerts you when any monitored sensors on your Intel motherboard
- have gone outside of their recommended range. If an alert occurs,
- Intel Active Monitor can provide you with several different alert
- notifications. The standard notification is the Intel Active
- Monitor icon in the system tray, which turns red and flashes in
- the event of an alert. Additionally, you can choose to receive
- audio alerts and pop-up window alert messages.
-
- Intel Active Monitor also:
- - provides easy channel bar navigation in place of menus,
- - retains a history of the previous alerts on your system,
- and
- - provides important information about your system's
- software and hardware, which you can print or save.
-
- This readme file contains information specific to this release
- and provides information about the application that was
- discovered too late in the development process to be included in
- the help file.
-
- This product is only qualified to run on the Intel motherboard or
- Intel(R) Desktop Board it shipped with. In addition, the specific
- heatsink/fan combination must have been qualified for the Intel(R)
- motherboard or Desktop Board (check your specific motherboard
- installation instructions).
-
- Note that displayed temperature measurements are approximate and
- should not be used for design or validation of thermal solutions.
- See "Temperature Sensor Variations" in the help file for more
- information.
-

- for your specific Intel(R) Desktop Board or Intel(R)
- Motherboard. Intel(R) Active Monitor has been qualified only
- with the heatsink, fan, and processor combinations listed for
- Intel(R) Boxed Processors. The heatsink must also be
- properly installed with adequate thermal grease.

-
-
- III. Compatibility Information
- ------------------------------
- Intel Active Monitor may conflict with other monitoring software
- that uses the same resources, the monitoring ASIC chip and the SM Bus
- driver. Running other monitoring software that uses the same
- resources as Intel Active Monitor, while Intel Active Monitor is
- running, may cause Intel Active Monitor to fail. Intel(R)
- LANDesk(R) Client Manager (LDCM) is an example of another
- application that uses the same resources as Intel Active Monitor.
-
-
- IV. Known Issues
- ----------------
- 1. Before you upgrade your computer's operating system from
- Windows 2000 to Windows XP, be sure to first uninstall
- Intel Active Monitor as described below:
- - Click the "Start" button and select the "Settings" and
- "Control Panel" menu items.
- - Click on the "Add/Remove Programs" icon.
- - Click "Intel(R) Active Monitor" on the currently
- installed programs list.
- - Then click on the "Change/Remove" button.
- - Follow all uninstall instructions as needed.
- Then, after performing the Windows XP operating system
- upgrade, reinstall Intel Active Monitor (using version
- 1.14 or higher).
-
- 2. If you've added, changed, or removed a fan, you need to
- reinstall Intel Active Monitor to accurately monitor your
- system's fan(s).
-
- 3. A Windows audio device must be correctly installed for the
- alerting sounds to be audible.
-
- 4. If Intel Active Monitor is uninstalled from a Windows Me
- based-system, the system attempts to detect new hardware.
- We recommend that you select all defaults shown in the
- hardware detection wizard.
-
- 5. If Intel Active Monitor is installed on Intel(R) D815EEA
- Desktop Boards and the Suspend State is set to S3 in
- BIOS, a P08 (or newer) version of D815EEA BIOS will be
- required to prevent false alerts when the system awakens
- from the S3 sleep state.
-
- Also, the same issue exists with the Intel(R) D850GB Desktop
- Board. in this case, a P03 (or newer) version of D850GB BIOS
- is required to prevent false alerts when the system awakens
- from the S3 sleep state.
-
- 6. If your system includes an Intel(R) CA810E Desktop Board,
- it is required that you use the P05 or newer version of
- CA810E BIOS when running the Intel Active Monitor.
-
- 7. Individual FAN silkscreen labels on some Intel(R) Desktop
- Boards were NOT meant to correspond to Intel(R) Active
- Monitor's Fan gage labels (Fan 1, Fan 2, Variable Fan 1,
- and Variable Fan 2).
